Centra The Phoenix, Ballymena, Co. Antrim has become the first site to install Contactless payment technology in Northern Ireland.
Owned by Peter McCool and managed by Kevin Killough, the store is now in a position to accept contactless payments from their customers on all five of the CBE FutaTill EPoS units.
What is Contactless Technology?
Contactless payment technology offers a quicker and more convenient method of paying for goods or services in fast moving retail outlets. For transactions under £20, customers simply hold their card in front of the reader and the transaction is processed automatically, eliminating the need to enter a Personal Identification Number (PIN).
Benefits of Contactless:
Both the retailer and the customer will benefit from the introduction of Contactless. Benefits include:
- Quick, easy payments for low value transactions
- Extremely effective in places where speed and convenience is important
- Strong fraud protection as security features are enhanced from standard chip & pin cards
- Faster transaction times increase turnover capability within the store
Over 85% of transactions in convenience stores are under £20 so the potential for this new technology within the sector is enormous. CBE plan to upgrade 500 stores with over 1,500 terminals to contactless technology in the coming 12 months.
The store installed the CBE EPoS system in late 2010 and is celebrating forty years in business in 2012. With a penchant for installing cutting edge technology, The Phoenix is leading the way with contactless payment technology in Northern Ireland.
